The project was successfully implemented through the drilling of a 160 meters deep borehole equipped with a solar-powered pump, ensuring a sustainable and environmentally friendly water supply system. A 12-meter-high elevated steel water tower was constructed, fitted with a 20,000-liter storage tank to guarantee consistent water availability.
“One person or organization cannot solve the global water crisis alone. Only by joining hands , minds, and efforts can we create  lasting change and ensure safe water for all”

The Motosiet Safe Water Project is a transformative community initiative led by the Rotary Club of Kitale. The project specifically targeted two local schools, churches, and surrounding households, significantly improving public health and sanitation.

With support from Rotary International through a Global Grant of $9,600, the project was designed to address the critical need for access to clean and safe drinking water for approximately 2,800 residents of Motosiet Community in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Kenya.

To enhance accessibility, water was distributed through a piped network to six strategic points, including four hand washing stations and two water kiosks, promoting hygiene and ease of access within the community.

The project includes distribution of 500 water filters to all the households in the community. A sanitation facility with a bio-digester was installed. Training on sustainability was done for the project committee and a follow up will be done monthly for 12 months after system commissioning.

Funding for the project was generously provided through partnerships between Rotary International District 7600 (USA) and District 9212 (East Africa), alongside contributions from international partner clubs including Goochland, Fluvanna, Innsbrook, Richmond, South Richmond, Western Henrico, and Brandermill in Virginia. Additional support was received from organizations such as Education Equals Hope, Hope to Others, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (Goochland, VA), and Shekinah Glory.

The project was implemented collaboratively by the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Kitale, with support from the international committee. The technical volunteer consultancy services were provided by Moses Ngania, a community development expert and the Chief Executive Officer at SWIG Kitale. The initiative reflects a strong spirit of global partnership and community-driven development.

The project was officially commissioned on March 21, 2026 by Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya, marking a significant milestone in improving water access, health outcomes, and overall quality of life for the Motosiet community.
