The Digital Literacy Project (DLP) unveiled during Basic Education and Literacy month seeks to promote Digital Literacy and enhance equal participation of learners in community development. Pupils of Garden Estate Primary School in Roysambu Constituency will be empowered with relevant and practical computer skills from a young age. It involved setting up a computer lab and equipping it with computers, installing internet connectivity as well as relevant furniture and fittings to ensure a fully functional computer lab hence providing a technologically supported learning environment.
Computers have been purchased and installed at Garden Estate Primary School Digital Literacy Lab where it is projected that over 700 learners, teaching and non-teaching staff will benefit annually by acquiring practical computer skills, knowledge, and competencies. Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road is currently working with the school Board of Management to provide relevant computer training to both pupils and staff. This is already helping to improve their performance through computer research and e-learning programs facilitated by the fully networked computer laboratory. The project was funded with Fundraising within our club and partnerships with local and international Rotary Clubs for donations of over 18,000 USD to the DLP project when completed and in partnership with Rotary Club of Sunrise of Road Town RID 7020 and Rotary Club of Nairobi Muthaiga North RID 9212
