In partnership with the County Government of Nakuru, the camp brought hope and healing to hundreds of families at Kikopey Dispensary in Gilgil Sub-County in mid-May. More than 750 beneficiaries received free consultations, treatment, medication, counselling, and specialized screenings through an integrated healthcare outreach that touched lives in profound ways. Patients received care for diabetes, hypertension, respiratory illnesses, dental complications, cancer screening, mental health support, HIV testing, and eye conditions linked to the harsh dust exposure common in the area.
The Rotary Club of Hurlingham’s fourth Annual Kikopey Free Medical Camp was more than a medical outreach — it was a beautiful reminder of what humanity, compassion, and service can achieve when people come together for a common purpose.

The eye clinic also transformed lives, with 234 residents receiving specialized eye screening and optical care. A total of 101 eyeglasses were dispensed, allowing many elderly residents and school-going children to see clearly again, some for the first time in years. Seventy-five patients received eye medication, while others were referred for further specialized treatment.
The outreach mobilized more than 281,000 Kenyan shillings through the club’s fundraising efforts and over 600,000 Kenyan shillings worth of in-kind support, including medication, optical services, cancer screening support, and transport services. These contributions became more than numbers — they became restored smiles, renewed hope, and healthier futures for hundreds of families.
Among the most emotional moments of the day was the fitting of 14 free prosthetic hands sponsored by the Rotary Club of Nairobi Utumishi. For the beneficiaries and their families, this was not simply a medical intervention — it was the restoration of confidence, independence, dignity, and renewed belief in tomorrow.

Behind every consultation desk, every registration tent, every smile, and every patient attended to was an incredible army of compassion. Seventy-eight volunteers dedicated over 960 hours of service to ensure the success of the outreach. Doctors, nurses, counsellors, Rotarians, Rotaractors, community mobilizers, and partners gave their time, expertise, and hearts selflessly in service of humanity.
Special appreciation goes to the County Government of Nakuru for their unwavering and continued support over the years. Their partnership has played a vital role in strengthening healthcare access for the people of Kikopey and surrounding communities. The success of the outreach also reflects the power of collaboration between government institutions, Rotary, healthcare providers, sponsors, volunteers, and community leaders who continue to believe in creating lasting impact together.
The Kikopey Dispensary itself remains a lasting legacy of Rotary service. Constructed by the Rotary Club of Hurlingham in 2017 through a Rotary Foundation Global Grant in partnership with Rotary Club of Alkmeer Netherlands, the facility continues to serve more than 15,000 residents who previously travelled long distances in search of medical care.
Beyond the statistics, the Kikopey Medical Camp reminded everyone present that true service is about touching lives with compassion and standing beside communities in their moments of greatest need. It was a day filled with gratitude, tears of joy, healing, and renewed hope. The Kikopey Free Medical Camp stands as a shining example of Service Above Self — proving that when communities, partners, and volunteers unite with love and purpose, lives are transformed forever.
